The Art Space Residency, Odemira, August 2026
Two weeks at the Art Space Hotel in Odemira, in Alentejo. Every day another artist sharing another craft, another vibe, another skill. Eleven workshops, evenings of music and performance, shared meals, and a Gather Together night where artists and the people around them ate at the same long table.
The work made there stayed there. A collective altar built on the first day and added to for a fortnight. The Womb of the Space, an art therapy piece made from cork for roots, tiles for identity, branches for bones, string for veins and eucalyptus leaves for skin. Collages, stone prints, drawings, cloth painted by everybody's hands, and a space that looked nothing like it had two weeks earlier.
It closed with an Open House: the whole fortnight hung and opened to whoever wanted to come. And it left something none of us planned for, which is the reason this page exists. A close team of artists was born, all with the same vision: to create a ripple of transformative arts.

What the artist gets, and what stays
A place to live and work
Accommodation, food and a working space for the length of the residency, so that nothing has to be paid for out of the creating.
Time without financial pressure
Art and culture should not have to carry immediate financial pressure. It blocks the flow, and it is the first thing a residency is designed to remove.
A group, not a room of your own
Residencies here are shared. Other artists, shared meals, workshops open to the public, and evenings that nobody planned. That is where the work gets interesting.
A piece that stays behind
Every artist leaves a work made from the place, for the place. It joins the living collection and the space keeps it for good.
